Who is at risk? Everyone!

No one is safe from sun damage! You suffer an increased risk if your skin is Type I or II — that is if you are of Scottish, Irish, Scandinavian, or northern European descent and have fair skin that burns easily but does not tan. Especially at risk are people who have freckles, blond, red or light-brown hair, and blue, green or gray eyes. (more…)

Insulin and Diabetes, Obesity Hormones, from Muscle to Fat continue…

In Type Z diabetes, there is at first no shortage of insulin. In fact, early in the disease, there is more than usual. Yet, despite the insulin making its presence known in the muscle tissue, the muscle remains deaf to insulin’s messages, no matter how many are sent, and does nothing to stimulate the uptake of glucose or the storage of glycogen.

Another hormone which comes from the pancreas, in cells which live very near to those which make insulin, is glucagon. Whereas insulin is the hormone of plenty, glucagon is the hormone of scarcity: so when glucose is taken into the blood from the intestine during digestion of starchy foods, insulin is secreted and glucagon secretion is inhibited. During the night, when there is nothing left in your gut to absorb, glucagon secretion increases and insulin secretion is inhibited. (more…)

“GOOD BEHAVIOUR” PERSONALITY; “CONTROLLED” PERSONALITY

“GOOD BEHAVIOUR” PERSONALITY

The “good behaviourtype has put a tremendous amount of energy into conforming. He relies on others’ opinions and likes to obey the rules. He looks down on those who do not follow the rules or do not act in the proper fashion. He is obedient and authority bound — he is always worried about whether the authority will approve of his actions, and he willtry very hard to please. On the positive side, he may be an extremely conscientious worker.

Childhood background

The childhood history is often one of an over-emphasis on the control of behaviour. Being a good boy or a good girl is more important to the parents than natural expressions of spontaneity. Thus, eating up all your food, or going to the lavatoryonce a day, or being nice, or not being aggressive, becomemajor issues in which the parents eventually win a battle for control. The child thinks that if he conforms, then at last hewill receive the warmth and security he wants, but howeverhard he tries, he can never be good enough because he will never really be loved for who he is. “DEPENDENT” PERSONALITY

The “dependenttype (sometimes called “oral” in psycho- analytical literature) looks to others to provide a sense of worth, emotional care, physical care and even a reason for living. His underlying attitude is that others should go out of their way to provide for him and in fact that they owe him care. His catch phrase is “I can’t”, which translated means: “You must do it for me”. He believes he should not have to work, especially physically, and that one way or another theworld is responsible for taking care of him.

If your attitudes were as obvious as these, you might find ithard to live with yourself without changing. Such attitudes are usually disguised — you do not think “Ah! this woman gives me a sense of worth and makes me want to live,” but you fall madly in love, believing that she is everything. (more…)

Knowing your skin type, and learning about the best products to cleanse, tone, and moisturize is important to having your skin look its very best. Products that make one type of skin look great can do nothing at all for another type of skin.

Diabetes and Eating disorders

1. Diabetes

Insulin is a hormone that controls the provision of blood sugar (glucose) to the tissues of your body where it’s used for energy. Diabetes is a metabolic disease that affects your body’s ability to make or respond to insulin. Type 1, or insulin-dependent diabetes, is an inherited disease that affects your pancreas, destroying its ability to make insulin. Type 1 diabetes usually occurs during childhood or adolescence.

Ninety per cent of people with diabetes have type 2 (or non-insulindependent) diabetes. In this type, your body cannot use the insulin properly. Type 2 diabetes usually occurs after age 30.
