When we are young, our facial skin is soft and elastic. It stretches when we smile, laugh, yawn, frown, etc and then springs back into its original place. The smooth, firm appearance of the young face is caused by the thin layer of fatty tissue beneath the skin. Beneath the fatty layer lies muscle and it is this that enables us to make our facial expressions. The largest muscle is the platysma muscle, which extends from the jaw into the neck, defines the angle of the chin and differentiates it from the neck. (more…)

Ideally chemical face peels and dermabrasion should not leave scars. However, if an area is burned too deeply with the chemical or dermabrasion is too deep, lumpy and angry red scarring can result. This may or may not fade in time — sometimes it is permanent.
All injections leave tiny puncture marks, so this will occur after collagen implants. Normally they are virtually invisible. They might show up as white dots, however, if you have very dark skin, but the procedure isn’t really advisable for dark-skinned people anyway. (more…)

A potential recipient of bovine collagen implant must first be tested for possible allergy to the substance. The test is simple: a small amount of collagen is injected painlessly into the forearm through a tiny needle. The dermatologist examines the area tested a few days later, and again after a month. Almost everyone allergic to collagen shows a reaction within two days — an itchy, red bump appears at the site of the pin-prick. A few people might not show a reaction for up to four weeks. (more…)

The whole universe is held together by gravity. The movements of the earth around the sun (determining the seasons) and of the moon around the earth (regulating the tides) are all according to the invisible force of gravity. Although gravity makes life possible (and helps people walk rather than float!), we are not often conscious of gravity’s effect on our appearance. (more…)

As you now realize, most of our larger wrinkles are caused by repeated facial expressions: frowning, squinting, smiling, grimacing or raising our eyebrows, or sometimes by moving one side of our face more than the other. With time, our facial wrinkles begin to show our facial habits. (more…)
