Nose Cosmetic Surgery, what you need to know? part 1

October 20, 2008 By: arlene Category: Beauty, Cosmetic Surgery, Fashion, Skin Care 3 Comments →

Requests for revision of the nose are one of the most common that cosmetic surgeons hear, because an awful lot of people are unhappy with their noses. Rhinoplasty, as nose surgery is called, has few major complications and therefore can have a very happy outcome, from the surgeon’s point of view. However, happiness is not so assured from your point of view if you have too fixed and unrealistic an idea about how you expect or hope your new nose will look. It is absolutely vital to be sure that you do want to alter your nose at all, bearing in mind that very fine alterations might be impossible to guarantee and you may be unhappier with the new version than the old. You should also assist your surgeon in every way you can to provide you with the nose you want. (more…)

Tired Romance, Solving your Marriage Problems, keep Wedding Promise

Who Starts the Quarrels?

How do most family quarrels start? This, of course, is hard to say, for usually there is no single cause. Often there is some underlying discontent, particularly on the part of the wife. Marriage has changed her lot completely, while her husband may be carrying on the same work that has occupied his time for years. He may prefer to continue his routine uninterrupted, while she will want plenty of variety. She may then assume that he does not love her. This may be true in some instances, but not in most. In any case she may begin to feel rather neglected. She wants more attention. A brisk family contention may seem a rather rough way to bring this about, but it usually attracts the attention she craves—sometimes much more! Most men will take just so much, then there may be trouble, perhaps even physical violence. The sensible thing to do is prevent such episodes before they reach the place where there seems to be no turning back. (more…)

Don’t Ruin your Mood, Stress Management, Live a Balanced, Healthy Lifestyle, Life is full of Challenges instead of Threats

July 11, 2008 By: arlene Category: Beauty, Clinic, Depression, Diet, Fashion, Food, Health, Life, People, Stress Reducing, Weight Control, Women 4 Comments →

A great many of my patients do not really know what stress actually is. They think that it’s an outside force causing them to feel tense. But that’s not stress — that’s a stressor. Stress is a person’s negative reaction to a stressor.

For the most part, people have a negative reaction to stressors when they feel that their stressors are greater than their ability to deal with them. When they feel like this, they see their stressors as threats. On the other hand, if they think they can handle their stressors, they usually see them as challenges and generally enjoy grappling with them.

If you now feel as if your life is full of threats, instead of challenges, you are experiencing stress. If your degree of stress is severe, it’s going to be quite difficult for you to live a balanced, healthy lifestyle free from compulsion, including the compulsion to overeat. (more…)

How to be a famous Decorator: TRUST YOUR OWN TASTE part 1

Although money can’t buy it, anyone intelligent can learn to have good taste. You can spend like a drunken film star, but you risk an expensive clutter that hasn’t quite come off. If you pay someone else to design your home you risk something pretty expensive, lifeless and unlived in, or alternatively, an exuberantly camped-up setting with mouldings picked out in white and in which you feel uneasy.

So the first rule is Do it yourself. Because otherwise you’ll never learn.

Discovering your own good taste is an unpeeling process, eliminating the layers which other people have impressed upon you. One of the easiest ways to find out what you like is to get a pinboard and start sticking up anything which takes your fancy — a scrap of lace, photographs, postcards, a colour swatch, a cartoon. Sex Maniacs and the Single Girl part 2

The best way to treat indecent exposure is to ignore it and walk on. Try to move away from the man who is pressing against you in a train, bus or lift.

The way to deal with peeping Toms is to cover yourself up and inform the police. If you haven’t any curtains to draw, pin a sheet over the window until you can make curtains.

Stealing knickers is a well recognized minor fetish, so the police advise you never to leave any underwear on the washing line. It’s asking for trouble, they say.

If you feel a groping hand in a darkened cinema or other closed space you could say loudly and clearly `KINDLY TAKE YOUR HAND OFF MY KNEE,’ whereupon he will skid off. Alternatively, change seats at once, keeping an eye on the man. ` If he thinks you’ve merely moved and aren’t going to report him he’ll probably stay in the cinema,’ says Miss Kelly. ‘ Then slip off and ask the usherette for the manager, go back and point him out? Makeup tips for glasses wearing: Glasses or Contacts

June 06, 2008 By: arlene Category: Beauty, Cosmetic, Skin Care 4 Comments →

If you wear glasses, keep in mind that …

  • Concealer is a must. It lightens the eye area so that eyes sparkle through lenses. Lightly dust powder over concealer to take away shine.
  • If you’re nearsighted, the lenses will make your eyes seem smaller, so play them up with vibrant shadows and two coats of mascara.
  • If you’re farsighted, the lenses will magnify your eyes, so apply makeup with a light hand. Muted colors are best, and a single coat of mascara should suffice. Tip: Use a magnifying mirror to apply and blend well, because any mistakes will be magnified by your glasses.

The DIY of Home Skin Treatment Part 3

April 27, 2008 By: arlene Category: Beauty, Cosmetic, Fashion, Skin Care, Weight Control 5 Comments →

Most of the research and development into the use of fetal and placental extracts comes from Germany, where they are regularly used by dermatologists as medical, rather than strictly cosmetic, treatment. One such German preparation, available only on prescription, by the name of Cellcutana, made by Cybila Cytobiological Laboratories, in Heidelberg, is designed to stimulate and regenerate skin that has been either chemically or physically damaged and to prevent abnormal healing, including scars. It is an effective treatment for burns and premature aging. A filtrated extraction of fetal skin, fetal connective tissue, placenta, and suprarenal gland, it comes as a liquid suspension mixed with the supplied dilutant before use. Similar mixtures in diluted form can be found in many of the best French and Swiss treatment creams. (more…)

Makeup: Putting It into Practice (Step 3 Highlight Your Eyes )

Light Draws the Eye

Highlighter is a powerful tool when it is used wisely. When carelessly or wrongly applied, it can make a face look positively absurd. The best highlighters are not white. Bone white is too harsh. Instead choose a pale ivory foundation to use as a lightener on the areas of the face you wish

The Eyes Have it

For most women, one of their best features is the eyes. Perhaps this is because eyes reveal so much of what goes on inside one. Makeup for eyes should emphasize this and show off the eyes‘ beauty and color. It should never be applied gratuitously, as it often is. (more…)

Makeup: Putting It into Practice (Step 1 Moisturizers & Foundation)

April 09, 2008 By: arlene Category: Cosmetic, Skin Care 5 Comments →

Every good makeup begins with a water-in-oil moisturizer and a sunscreen lavishly applied over clean skin and then given a chance to settle in. It is rather like making a mayonnaise. You can’t rush things. You need to wait for your skin to take to the moisturizer before you put on your foundation; otherwise you will end up with a flawed finish and your makeup will not last. “Taking” time is usually about two minutes.

Many Moisturizers

In addition to the ordinary moisturizers, there are also tinted ones on the market. These products are halfway between moisturizers and foundations. They impart some color and also provide you with some measure of protection from water loss. In France they are often called creme sport, because they can be worn, by women who ordinarily would not want to cover their skin with a foundation, for instance during a tennis match. They give a very light cover but can be a nice way of simply adding a healthy glow to your skin. Some of them also contain sunscreens. (more…)

The Facts: Life-style and fat Control

February 01, 2008 By: arlene Category: Diet, Weight Control 6 Comments →

The first step in fat control is establishing realistic goals.

Too many teens and adults, both men and women, establish unrealistic goals for their physical appearance. Fat weight, and body proportions are all factors that can be changed, but people often set standards for themselves that will be difficult, if not impossible, to achieve. It is important that goals be set for fat and weight control that can be accomplished for both the short term and the long haul. This necessitates developing an understanding of your own body proportions as well as your body fatness. Unrealistic goals may result in eating disorders (see Concept 20), failure to meet goals, or the failure to maintain fat loss over the long haul. The measurement procedures used in Labs 13A and 13B should help you establish realistic goals.

Goals that emphasize the behavior of eating less and exercising more are more effective than those emphasizing a specific outcome such as weight or fat lost (or gained).

Caring for Your Hands, Knees, Elbows, and Feet

January 26, 2008 By: arlene Category: Diet, Foot Care, Massage, Nail Care, Skin Care 5 Comments →

The skin on your hands, knees, elbows, and feet is not as delicate as the skin on your face. Still, like the skin on your face, the other skin on your body can look its best with a regular skin-care program.

Your hands express a lot about you. Like the skin on your face, the skin on your hands is constantly exposed to the elements, as well as to dirt and detergents. The skin on hands can easily become dry, chapped, and wrinkly. Your nails, too, can become dry and brittle. But with a little care, it is easy to make your hands soft and smooth, and your nails strong and hard.

Shopping for Super Foods

November 27, 2007 By: eric Category: Cookery, Diet 5 Comments →

How do you get the essential nutrients into your diet? Here are some super foods to eat that help maintain great health, increase immunity and make you feel good. They are packed with essential nutrients and powerful natural antioxidants, they taste delicious and add variety to your diet. They are some of our favourite foods, and we buy them regularly.

Fruits and vegetables

The best way to eat fruits and vegetables is straight from the tree or garden, when they haven’t lost any of their vitamins and minerals. This means that the produce is in season and you are obtaining the best nutrient value. Growers’ outlets or markets also supply good seasonal produce

There are endless ways to serve up your veges. We love leaving them raw and cutting them into small pieces to dip in hummus. Kids love this, too! Try different or unusual vegetables once in a while to add variety. When cooking vegetables, steaming is usually better than boiling, as it preserves more nutrients. For sauteing, use a little butter or olive oil. (more…)

What Goes Into your Skin?

November 14, 2007 By: eric Category: Cosmetic, Diet, Hair Care, Skin Care 4 Comments →

While we are more and more aware about what is in our food - whether it is low in fat or sugar, whether it is GM free or organic - often we don’t spare a second thought to what is in our skincare or personal care products. According to research, women expose themselves to over 200 chemicals a day through skin and health-care products and make-up. This is a scary thought when you start to investigate what those ingredients are. We put on creams and lotions thinking we are doing our best to keep the skin healthy and hopefully slow down the aging process, yet often we are completely unaware of the product’s ingredients or the effect they may have on our health.

Over the last few years more and more information and research into the effects cosmetics are having on our health has become available. There is quite a debate taking place as companies defend their ingredients and the reasons why they are included in their products. The information can be quite confusing. We believe the only way you can really get to the bottom of this is to start investigating yourself, taking responsibility for your own health. Learn what the different ingredients are and what they do. Make informed decisions about whether you use them or not, and don’t be fooled by clever advertising campaigns. (more…)
