Elegance is refusal
This one simple word separates the fabulous doll from the ghetto fabulous girl. The fab doll knows to pare it down, be it accessories or head-to-toe designer outfits. Paring down is fabulous. Piling on? Ghetto (er, I mean urban, sorry, Sean) fabulous. Got it? Good! Before you leave the house, take one thing off. Before you leave your bedroom, consult the mirror and pick your point of focus. If it’s going to be your incredible body that is being showcased to its best advantage in, let’s say, a curve- skimming dress, why overpower the look and bore potential admirers by weighing yourself down with more gold and ice than the Cash Money Crew? And hey, while we’re on the subject, if you’re trying to look sexy, leave something to the imagination. In other words, keep your clothes on. Sure, serve up legs, but not legs, thighs, booty, and boobs. I know this is hard when all around you, wanna-be video gals have everything hanging out.
But just remember, the goal is to have someone say, “You look fabulous!” Not, “How much?”
Closet Therapy
Why oh why is the prom dress with the garish neckline and unflattering peach hue still hanging in your closet ten years after the fact? Is there any earthly reason you’re still hanging on to the run-down Birkenstocks you bought during your boho stage in college? You get my drift. Clutter is not cool. Get rid of anything that you haven’t worn in years ASAP. At the end of each season go back into the closet and make like John Gotti; get ruthless and methodical about your clothes purging. The sexy black dress that you used to work twenty pounds ago? Hello church clothing drive! The white blouse with the cigarette burn? Blouse meet Hefty garbage bag. You get the idea. Rule of thumb? If you haven’t worn it in a year, trash it. If, however, you’re sitting on a designer piece that is a little too of a particular moment, garment-bag it, send it to the back of the closet, and don’t pull it out again until it’s called vintage.
