All plants utilize sunlight for their life and growth, locking up life-force energy derived from the sun’s rays. If properly preserved, essence from the plant can have a powerful effect on us and our environment. Essential oils are made from the very essence of the plant, and is not just plant material. This life- force element is the reason why real plant essences and oils, rather than those that are artificially made, have beneficial effects.
Essential oils in the home permeate the rooms and fill the ether. We can feed off these nourishing, positive vibrations. Different essential oils create different types of energy and depending on what type of vibrations you feel you need, you can burn one or a mixture of oils.
Essential oils create a pleasant atmosphere when used as a room fragrance. At the same time, specific oils will have an effect on your mood, creating a good ambiance for work, relaxation, inspiration, meditation, romance or sleep. Some oils will help to fumigate the air in cases of disease or illness.
There are several ways in which to use oils for a room fragrance. Add a few drops of essential oil to a bowl of dried flowers or potpourri. You can also place a few drops of essential oil onto padded clothes hangers and drawer liners. A few drops of oil on a light bulb will be dispersed by the heat. In winter, you can put a couple of drops of essential oil onto a piece of cotton wool which can then be placed behind a radiator. Alternatively, float two drops on a saucer of water positioned close by a warm radiator. This will also act as a humidifier.
There are many different types of essential oil burners which you can buy from shops, but I have found that most of them are badly designed. So, for the best results, look for one with a deep bowl, as the water evaporates very quickly in a shallow one. Also make sure the distance between the bowl and the candle below is not too great, or the flame will never keep the water hot. Here are some oils which can be used for specific purposes although most oils can be used to release aroma into the air.
