Healing Home Vibrations from the Past
Every house has a history. The signs which indicate its age and development over the years are preserved within its structure and interior furnishings, while documents can give the legal history and information about the people who lived there or once owned the property. Even the site where a modern house has been built will have its history, which is every bit as interesting as that of an older building.
There will be many clues on your doorstep regarding the history of your home such as in the names of the house, street, neighborhood. There will also be oral traditions relating to the area and photographs, magazines and books on local history.
Information about the past owners of the house may come from your neighbors or, if they have changed recently, can be found in documents relating to the title deeds. There may also be other documents that reveal details about the house which were not intended as records to be used for that purpose, such as newspaper articles, wills or photographs. Looking at a map will also help you find out more about the site of your house in its context over the years.
Often old buildings hold vibrations of the previous occupants and sometimes from those that have lived there a long time ago. In houses where there are lots of corners and ornaments, unusual shaped rooms and hidden spaces, energy can remain trapped. A room that has thick, old-fashioned wallpaper, old carpeting and draped curtains is also prone to holding energy from previous occupants. This is why there are so many tales of ghosts associated with old houses with such heavy furnishings. We can also use our sensitivity to access the psychic atmosphere.
The previous inhabitants of your house also leave their energetic mark. If they enjoyed a generally happy and healthy life there, they will have instilled positive vibrations into the building. If possible, try to find out about the previous occupants of your home in the ways I have suggested. Even if the vibrations in your home feel good, you can still give them a spring clean in case some stagnant energy remains. This suggestion is based on a clearing ritual suggested by Shaman healer Denise Linn.
First, starting from the door, walk around the room in a clockwise direction. Clap you hands loudly and rhythmically, forming circles in the air. When you reach a corner in the room clap your hands several times in an upwards motion. As you progress around the room, listen to the sound of your clapping and try to locate any spots where the sound is dull. Now go back to these areas and clap your hands in sweeping movements towards the nearest window. Check the sound of your clapping again. It should be crisp and clear.
Family heirlooms
Furniture in a house tells the story of the humans who live there. Few things are as satisfying as seeing yourself reflected in your personal possessions. We become attached to objects for the associations and memories they hold for us. So long-possessed and cherished furniture exudes a warmth coming from its beauty and the affection felt for it.
Family heirlooms often hold the key to many generations of owners. The energy held in this furniture can influence the well-being of the present owners. If you are in tune with your ancestors, and honor and respect the piece of furniture, it can become a guardian and defender of the home.
Furniture can remind you of people, special times in your lives and other places. If you chose a piece of furniture when you were struggling financially, getting married, getting divorced or moving home, you will recall these times when you look at or use the item. This means that you are constantly and very subtly reminded of these connections. If the furniture was an unwanted gift or you do not like it, it will continue to reinforce these feelings of discomfort, anger, or resentment.
Get rid of any unwanted furniture. If you do not, it will undermine your self-esteem and happiness, lowering the energy field of your entire home. If you cannot do this, disguise the furniture by re-covering, using mounds of cushions or throwing a tablecloth over the top. This will not get rid of the vibrations but will deflect them elsewhere.
