Nourishing and Moisturizing Skin care Essential Oils tips
Essential oils are absorbed through the skin and penetrate its deepest layers. The main property of all essential oils is that they are highly antiseptic, though at different degrees, depending on the essence chosen. They help speed up the removal of old skin cells and thus encourage the production of new cells.
Essential oils help muscles to regain a healthy condition and aid the soft tissue to get rid of excess fluid and waste materials or, if required, to restore lost hydration. They also act as blood regulators, improving the blood circulation. With the help of pressure points on nerve centres, the essential oils help to regulate the nervous system, making it more alert to impulses and quicker to react.
In our clinic, we use body and face oils which are made up of essential oils mixed with vegetable oils. The percentage for the face varies between 1 and 3 per cent essential oil to vegetable oil, depending on the condition being treated and the strength of essential oil being used. For the body, it varies between 2 and 5 per cent essential oil to vegetable oil.

Deep cleansing is essential, especially if you use make-up. Apply the cleansing milk or oil to face and neck, using gentle circular movements. Remove with tissue and repeat until the tissue comes away clean. Next, apply herbal lotion with cotton wool to tone the skin. Evian spray, which has an excellent alkaline action and counteracts any acidity in the skin, is good for all skin types.
A nourishing and moisturizing face oil or cream should then be applied to a clean skin morning and night. Apply it all over the face and neck and around the eyes, with gentle stroking movements. If you use make-up, do not apply it until at least 1 5 minutes later, to make sure there is no excess oil left and that it has all been absorbed. If there is still some excess oil after this time, blot it with a tissue, then apply make-up.
Depending on the quality of the skin, deep cleansing should be done with a face shampoo, either four times a week for oily skins, or once a week for dry, sensitive skins. Face shampoo is a useful product. It should be applied gently to the skin with a little lukewarm water, massaging it in with circular movements of the fingertips over those areas that need particularly deep cleansing, which are usually the nose and chin areas. Rinse off, then tone.
A face mask is a must, either once or twice a week, depending on skin type. This can be either a deep cleansing, highly antiseptic mask for oily skins; a lighter mask for normal skins; a soothing mask for sensitive skins; or a rejuvenating mask for mature skins. Apply a small amount evenly over face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Leave for 5 to 10 minutes, then rinse off gently with lukewarm water, being careful not to drag the skin. Pat dry and then apply face oil or cream.
Normal Skin
A healthy, normal skin is neither too dry nor too oily, and is smooth and even in tone.
Cleansing We usually recommend a ‘face shampoo, to be used in the morning two or three times a week. At other times, it is best to use a cleansing milk containing rose or camomile. This should be followed either by a lotion of rose water or orange blossom water, or by Evian spray.
Face oil
Face oil should be applied to a clean skin, morning and evening. Make-up can be applied 15 minutes later. For young skins, we recommend 2 per cent essential oils of either basil, camomile, sandalwood or ylang ylang in sesame vegetable oil. For mature skins, we recommend a face oil containing 3 per cent essential oil, choosing from rose, patchouli, sage or geranium, in jojoba or wheatgerm vegetable oil.
Face mask
We also suggest the application, twice weekly, of a refreshing and slightly cleansing herbal mask. This should be alternated with the application of pulp of apricots, which you can prepare by liquidizing fresh apricots in a blender. Leave on the skin for 10 minutes and rinse off with rose water.
