Learning to Work the Reflex Points in Your Fingers and Hands
You have a general idea of how each part of your body has a corresponding reflex located in the hands and fingers. In explaining how to work the various reflex points and their coinciding areas in the body.
We will start with the top of the thumb and fingers, and work the reflexes corresponding to the head. Then we will progress to the rest of the hands, explaining the reflexes and body areas as we go.
How to Work Reflexes in thumbs and Fingers
Reflexes in the thumb correspond to certain areas of the head; the left thumb and fingers stimulate the left side of the head, and the right thumb and fingers, the right side of the head. You will find that the fingers are very significant, as they particularly seem to control the nerves and mentality.
Start with upper end of thumb: Begin the reflex work by rolling your right fingernail across the top of the left thumb at its very tip. If it’s easier for you, you can apply pressure with the top of your opposite thumb, or use a reflex tool. Be careful not to bruise the flesh under the nail itself.
Next, take the palm side of your left thumb between the right thumb and index finger, and drop down to the pad that is located above the first joint. Press deeply into it with the edge of your right thumb. This is the reflex to the pituitary and hypothalamus glands in the brain. Because of its close proximity, you will also be working the reflex to the pineal gland. Stimulation of the pituitary gland often means a new lease on life for young and old.
These are very important endocrine glands located deep in the brain. Therefore, the reflexes in the thumb are also deep. You may get better results by using a self-help reflex tool, such as the Probe, or any blunt instrument that will help press more firmly into the reflex buttons. Be sure to cover the whole pad with a pressing, rolling motion.
Now work the edge of your thumb, and on around to the back (or topside) of the thumb just below the nail. Work this whole area down to the base of the thumb, searching thoroughly for tender reflexes as you go.
Working reflexes at the base of the thumb: Just above where the thumb joins the hand, we find reflexes to the throat, neck, tonsils, thyroid, and vocal cord. Press your right thumb into the reflex of the thyroid gland, at the base of the left thumb. You will work all along this area. To reach the parathyroid you will press a little deeper.
There are many reflexes at the base of the thumb; do not neglect any section of the thumb, no matter how small or insignificant it may appear to you. Only by reaching all the reflexes will you get the full benefits of reflexology.
Repeat the reflex work on the right thumb in the same manner. By this time you should actually feel your body responding and renewing its vital forces, and notice the muscles in your neck are relaxing as if by magic.
How reflexology stopped a stiff neck: A retired friend who had the habit of falling asleep while reading invariably woke up with a stiff neck due to faulty posture. She quickly learned from me how to work the stiffness out of her neck, by working the reflexes in her thumbs, to obtain immediate relief.
Working reflexes in the fingers: Now let us go over the fingers which, hold the reflexes to the nerves and sinuses. One of the best ways to work sinus reflexes is in the tips of the fingers. Roll the thumbnail back and forth over each finger just at the edge of the nail, as you did on the thumb. When you do this correctly, you will usually feel a tender prickling sensation as if you are pressing on splinters in the tips of your fingers. Roll the right thumb over the tips of the left fingers and use the left thumb to roll along the tips of the right fingers.
Since the sinuses affect several areas in the head, you can readily see how working the reflexes in the fingers to corresponding zones will benefit sinus conditions.
Now let us concentrate on our fingers for a few minutes. Work over them slowly and completely to stimulate renewed energy through each zone. Work all around the finger, by pressing on the back and front of it. When you get to the webbing between the fingers, pinch and massage it well, as this will benefit your eyes, ears, and sinuses. When you do find a tender spot, work on it a few seconds, then go on to the next finger.
Continue your work on the sides of each finger; here we find the reflexes to the nerves. Work both sides of each finger, searching for tender spots as you work down toward the hand, as you did with the thumb.
Keep working up and down each finger, pressing and rolling deep enough so that you can feel the three-dimensional firmness of the muscle and bone underneath. The nerve reflexes at the end of each zone, as well as along the side of each finger, may be used to bring about an anesthetic effect, to decrease pain without drugs.
Be sure to work both thumbs and all fingers on both hands, so that forceful life pulsations may be manifested into all of the glandular regions of your body.
