Ageing and Sagging Skin, what Cosmetic Surgery do for Thighs and Buttocks
Just as upper arms reveal ageing or significant weight loss by sagging, so too do the inner thighs and buttocks. Although the scarring that results from the trimming of excess fat and skin is as extensive as in arm reduction surgery, its positioning in buttock reduction makes it less of a problem. Both the body and normal clothing help conceal it. This is not however the case for thigh reduction although only mini-skirts and swimsuits may be awkward to wear.
Sagging Skin Cosmetic Surgery procedure
To remove slack skin from the thighs and/or buttocks. Although some fat is removed in the process, the aim is not to remove fat that should have been lost through sensible dieting.
Sagging Skin Cosmetic Surgery For whom is appropriate
As long as you suffer no physical conditions, such as phlebitis (blood clots on the leg), which may make surgery risky, thigh and/or buttock reduction can be carried out at any time during adulthood.
Sagging Skin Cosmetic Surgery what needs to be done
This procedure is carried out under general anaesthetic and usually takes two hours or more. An incision is made along the crease of the buttocks and goes as far as the pubic area and halfway down along the upper inner thigh, if the thighs are being reduced too. Excess skin and some of the underlying fat are cut out before the remaining skin is stitched back into place. Usually a drainage tube is inserted, to prevent collection of blood around the wound.
Sagging Skin Cosmetic Surgery Pain and Recovery
Sitting and walking will be uncomfortable and you will hurt for a couple of days. Even though you may be inclined to spend this time lying on your stomach or side, these being the least uncomfortable positions, you will be coaxed to get up and walk around a little. Moving is important, to reduce risk of a deep vein thrombosis, which is more likely to occur after any surgery in which you are bedridden.
You will have bulky dressings and bandages on your wounds for three days, then lighter support bandages over your buttocks and thighs for up to a fortnight. But you will be able to go home a couple of days after surgery, when the drainage tubes have been removed.
If you have had surgery to your thighs, and therefore an incision reaching to the pubic region, you are more at risk from anal or urinary infection, as the anus and the urethra are pretty close by. Careful washing or bathing in salted water is a useful preventive measure, after the first set of bandages have been removed. Stitches should be taken out after a fortnight, unless they are the dissolving kind.
You will tire easily, as neither sitting nor standing will be very comfortable for a while, and so you should leave three weeks before you attempt to return to work or any activities that require you to walk around a lot. Forget sex for three weeks — your pubic area will be vulnerable to infection and to friction, which may slow down healing and leave you with an uglier scar. Vigorous sports should be avoided for about six weeks.
Sagging Skin Cosmetic Surgery Scars
You will have a long scar under each buttock but fortunately these will be hidden by the creases. The scars that run halfway down your inner thighs will show if you wear shorts, mini-mini-skirts or a swimsuit or bikini.
Sagging Skin Cosmetic Surgery Problems
Any swelling under the skin caused by a collection of blood that has failed to drain must be quickly removed.
There may be some nerve damage, usually temporary, which reduces sensation in patches of the buttocks or the thighs.
Infection, which is more common because the pubic area is so vulnerable to contamination, can easily be treated with antibiotics but may slow down healing and leave you with a thicker scar.
Very often, an indentation forms under the scar and this is visible if you wear a tight skirt or tight jeans.
The scar itself may be lumpy or red, depending upon how you personally tend to heal.
Sagging Skin Cosmetic Surgery Advantages
The benefits are permanent, unless you gain and lose a lot of weight. Scars may be preferable to flabby skin and particularly so if the scars end up flat rather than raised. This cannot be guaranteed beforehand, however.
Cost of private treatment Around £2,500.
