Where wrinkles come from? (Discovering wrinkles)
When you take the time to ask “Why?” science will always answer “How”. In the case of wrinkles, as you learn why they appear, you can also learn how to prevent or postpone their appearance, plus how to eliminate many of the wrinkles you already have. It’s never too late to care for your skin, to prevent more wrinkles from appearing, and to soften those already present. It’s never too late to look and feel younger!
Discovering wrinkles
There are moments in everyone’s lives which do not do wonders for morale: among these are the times when you first look in the mirror and notice wrinkles that have made their first appearance. You can ask yourself, am I aging overnight? Am I really getting old? Am I mortal after all?
This frightening discovery can take place when you are 25 years old, or 30, or 40. And inevitably, such moments recur throughout your life with increasing impact, especially as you reach 50 or 60. But It has become clear that these are ages that are all young by today’s changing standards — too young to look old! So read on.
The face as a map
Your face is a unique part of your body in that your facial muscles attach directly to the skin rather than to bones or cartilage. There are 120 muscles in your face, responsible for all of the subtle movements that show so much about your thoughts and moods. In fact, humans are unique among living species in communicating so expressively through the face. Although we are told that “the eyes are the mirror of the soul,” it is actually the muscles around the eyes that make them so. The tiniest squint can indicate “hidden” laughter, intense thought, or deep anger. But it is not only the eyes that reflect the soul. The slightest pursing of the lips shows emotions as varied as flirtatious invitation or disdain. Furrowing the brow means concentration or reprimand. Tightening the jaw indicates anger or determination. Each of these facial- muscular movements wrinkles your skin, and over time some of these wrinkles become a “permanent” part of your facial “map” — permanent, that is, until they are treated!
What do all these exquisite and exuberant facial expressions do to our facial skin? Put simply, they make wrinkles! These wrinkles have their good side: in the popular terminology they are “character lines”. They are a map to your character and your emotions. Without facial wrinkles you would, in fact, be catatonic; you would not have permitted normal and healthy emotional expression. None of us, however, wants too much “character” etched on our face. We feel young, but we do not wish to be a young person trapped in an old appearance. Therefore you need to learn the joys of skincare, and therefore my skin program.
The magic mirror
Your skin is there for all to see. Dermatologists and plastic surgeons carefully observe and classify wrinkles in order to treat them. You can do the same. As you read through this, look in a mirror in a brightly-lit room to carefully observe telltale wrinkles along with signs of skin damage. Then visit a dermatologist and ask important questions about what you’ve seen. She or he will be delighted to address problems and recommend solutions.
