Body-Mind Energy Massage
The activities of the body-mind are engendered and maintained by the vibrations of the environment. Certain vibration frequencies are picked up by our sense organs. Colors, light, sounds, and the resistance of matter are manifestations of the same energy, segments perceived in a continuous range of waves.
We are sometimes conscious of these phenomena, and sometimes not. The same can be said of the waves picked up by our skin, the palms of our hands, and the soles of our feet. Not all human beings pick up energy in the same way, because many receive vibrations from the environment badly or incompletely.
When we awaken, we often instinctively rub our eyes and stretch. We unconsciously perform acts that enable energy to flow and activate numbed organs or points. We can perform them on others as well as on ourselves. They undoubtedly represent one of the oldest and most widespread forms of therapy and maintenance of the body-mind. In our time, certain gestures have at least partially preserved a charge of symbolism: the laying on of hands, for example. And do schoolchildren still know that when a man was dubbed a knight he was given a colossal blow on the top of his head?
When a person is in good health he draws energy from his environment in an invisible form and redistributes it in a visible form.
The opposite is also true, since we “burn” food. The human body picks up the electromagnetic vibrations of cosmic energy at points along the meridians.
When an element of the body is not in is normal condition, the points of the corresponding meridian become hard and painful even before the internal organ is sensitive. The network of meridians is an essential part of the body’s mechanism of self-defense and self- regulation. As long as it is alive, an organism always contains energy. But that energy often circulates badly. The “blockage” of a point causes congestion of energy and a shortage downstream. When a point is painful, it generally indicates an excess of energy there. Proper functioning of the circuits can be restored by massage in the form of rubbing, striking, squeezing, or pressing on the point and in the painful area.
When a point suffers from an excess of energy, it is calmed by dispersing energy into the meridian. The action of massage can be compared to that of removing a stone that hinders the current of a stream, and just as stagnant water loses the properties it had as running water, excessive energy reverses its effect on the body.
We can relieve a painful point and unblock energy by massaging the point deeply and continuously, using the fleshy part of the thumbs and synchronizing the thrusts with exhalation. If necessary, the point is massaged with a movement away from the center.
If a point is too painful, it is possible to act along the meridian, gradually moving up to the point. When energy is deficient at a point or in a meridian, it is pressed rapidly and lightly with the fingertips rather than the thumb, moving toward the center in spirals if necesary.
It goes without saying that breathing plays a fundamental part when one gives and receives a massage. If one person massages another, they should synchronize their breathing. Exhalation should be deep, always directed toward the region of the intestines, with inhalation taking place naturally. The kind of food you eat conditions the effectiveness of massage. And during massage you will be better aware of your body if it is not overfed or overladen with toxins.
Massage Yourself
You can massage yourself, and it is a very good way of becoming better acquainted with your body. You can also give the same massages to someone else (or receive them from him), which is an excellent way to make energy circulate.
Seated lightly on your heels, with your spine straight, your pelvis tilted, your chin drawn in, and your hands resting on your thighs, take the posture which, along with the “cross-legged” one, is the basic posture. If you breathe correctly and if your body is relaxed, there will be a self-massage of the internal organs.
Salutation-exhalation.
The hands flat on the floor form a triangle (yang). Lean forward, exhaling deeply, and place your forehead in the triangle. Remain in this position for a few moments, then straighten up while you inhale deeply and naturally.
When you take the posture, concentrate on it.
Your hands are tools. Here is how to prepare them: Rub or shake them to stimulate circulation of the blood, nervous energy, and ki.
