Nighttime Glamour
Evenings are for fun—dancing and parties, proms and plays and music under the stars. The wardrobe you choose for nighttime should contain an element of that romance. Look for more of everything: more color, more elegance, more glitz, more drama.
While a full-length evening dress may be required at a special party or prom, you don’t have to spend a fortune to look like a million. And there are lots of other ways to create a great nighttime look for Christmas bashes, New Year’s Eve fetes. Let’s examine four simple but knock-out pieces to see how many looks they can be used to create. Hint: Buy them all in classic, dramatic, and dressy black for the maximum mix-and-match power.
- Silk camisole. Look for skinny straps; can be cut straight across the top, V or scooped neck; shiny or matte.
- Evening pants. Cropped can be very chic if they look well on you; otherwise, ordinary length is fine. Choose velvet, raw or finished silk, satin.
- Oversized angora cardigan. Dolman sleeves and a shawl collar are practical as well as fashionable; if you find one with a little beading or a few sequins, great!
- Long, pleated knit skirt. This is ideal for daytime wear too, paired with a starched linen shirt or a pretty pastel sweater and a silk scarf.
Now, let’s play …
Wear (1) camisole with (2) pants when you want to dance until dawn. It’s a bare disco or party look, especially when you combine with flat black shoes (try patent or peau de soie), glittery earrings, and a filmy shawl thrown around your shoulders.
Wear (3) cardigan with (4) skirt. Cinch with a glitzy belt—try colored metallic or jewel-studded. The belt does away with the need for additional “gems”; all you need to add are some glittery or lacy tights and the black shoes from the outfit above.
Wear (1) camisole, (3) cardigan, and (4) skirt. Now you can leavethe cardigan open to show off the camisole (to which you can add some pearls). Or slip off the cardigan to let the camisole work as a solo sensational!
Wear (3) cardigan and (4) skirt, minus the camisole, for an all-out wow combo. Wear sweater out, unbelted, but secured at the bust by a big dynamite pin. Finish with simple earrings and bracelet.
You can also wear the cardigan with the slacks, with or without the camisole, and you can keep changing the look with different accessories. Now, how creative can you be?
