3 ELIMINATE ALLERGIES
Weight gain is a common reaction to foods we’re intolerant to. Most of us have intolerances or allergies to certain foods, but few of us are aware of it. Eliminating the food that you are unknowingly allergic to can lead to highly dramatic weight loss.
Water retention, bloating and puffiness are all common allergic reactions, and they make you feel and look fatter. Once you’ve singled out and eliminated the foods that are triggering your allergic response, you are likely to see dramatic changes very fast. It’s not unusual to lose up to 7lb (3.2kg) within three or four days.
Food allergies also cause other problems, such as aches and pains, headaches, fatigue, mood swings and annoying skin and digestive conditions. These also go when you identify and avoid what you are allergic to.
The good news is you can often ‘unlearn’ your intolerances in as little as three months, which means you can reintroduce previously problematic foods into your diet. If you think you are food sensitive or allergic, it is best to have a proper quantitative IgG ELISA test.
4 SUPPLEMENT FOR SUCCESS

FATBURNING SUPPLEMENTS — THE BASICS
Irecommend that you supplement your well-balanced diet with fatburning vitamins and minerals to ensure your metabolism is working at peak efficiency. The easiest way to take these every day is a high- strength multivitamin and mineral, and a 1,000mg vitamin C.
Most health-food shops can help you find supplements to meet these levels in the simplest and least expensive way, choosing from a variety of good brands. Supplements should be taken with food, preferably with breakfast, or spread throughout the day.
FATBURNING SUPPLEMENTS — PULLING OUT THE STOPS
To stabilise your appetite and sugar cravings in the first three months of starting the low-GL diet, I recommend taking, in addition to the vitamin C and multivitamin, a combination of the supplements HCA (hydroxycitric acid), 5-HTP (5- hydroxytryptophan) and chromium. These are the daily levels you need for the first three months only especially if you are prone to sugar cravings and have poor appetite control:
- Hydroxycitric acid (FICA) works best before meals. One 450mg tablet or capsule twice daily, 30 minutes before lunch and your evening meal.
- 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) 50mg taken with carbohydrate (such as fruit) twice daily, with your mid-morning and afternoon snacks. It also gives your mood a boost, but don’t take it if you are already taking an anti-depressant.
- Chromium 200mcg taken twice daily, with your mid-morning and afternoon snacks.
