Bubble Bath Oil
This is a nourishing and softening oil and children love it.
250 ml (1 cup) good quality soap, grated
1 litre (4 cups) boiling water, into which 6 sprigs rosemary or lavender, approx 20 cm long, have been steeped for 15 minutes
12,5 ml (1 tbsp) wheatgerm oil
Dissolve the soap in the herb ‘tea’. Whisk glycerine, wheat- germ, essential oil and witch-hazel, then pour into a liquidiser with the soap mixture. Liquidise for 5 minutes, then pour into a screw-top bottle and add 25 ml (2 tbsp) water from the hot tap. Pour a few drops into the bathwater and lie back and relax.
Sweet Oil Skin Softener
250 ml (1 cup) calendula flowers few drops honeysuckle essential oil
Steep flowers in the sweet oil in a screw-top bottle, adding a few drops honeysuckle essential oil. Stand for 2 weeks, shaking every now and then. Use a few drops in the bath or as a rub into dry skin. If you strain the flowers out after 2 weeks the oil will keep indefinitely.
Soothing Almond Bath Oil
250 ml (1 cup) scented geranium leaves 125 ml (1/2 cup) wheatgerm oil few drops scented geranium oil
Combine the almond, sunflower and wheatgerm oils. Steep the scented geranium leaves in the oil for 2-3 weeks. Twice or 3 times during that time, strain out the geranium leaves and pack with fresh ones (before throwing away the used scented leaves, I toss them into my bath to have the benefit of every tiny drop of oil! Take care that they don’t block the drain.) Strain out the leaves, add the essential oil, shake well in a screw-top bottle and add a teaspoon or two to the bathwater.
Rich Moisturising Soap
500 ml (2 cups) grated plain soap
5 ml (1 tsp) essential oil of rose or rose geranium
Place the grated soap in the top of a double boiler and simmer gently (I find if the water boils too vigorously, I have a hard time beating and blending). As it starts to melt add the honey and lanolin. Stir gently all the time until it is blended, then add the essential oil and mix well. Line a soap dish or small bowl with cling wrap or thin tinfoil (to prevent sticking) and pour in the soap mixture. When the soap has solidified remove it from the container and keep it in an airy place for about 10 days to allow it to mature. Then take a bath with it and enjoy it!
