Herb Deodorants
Several herbs are helpful in combating body odour. Those most often used through the centuries are sage, rosemary, leaves of chrysanthemum, lovage, celery and parsley. All can be made into a tea which is then used as a wash. Celery parsley, sage, rosemary and lovage should also be included frequently in the diet.
Lavender oil is also an excellent deodoriser and a strong lavender tea, 250 ml (1 cup) herb to 250 ml (1 cup) boiling water, can be used as a wash, adding a few drops of the oil before using.
Anti-perspirant Drink
This is an old-fashioned drink which is well worth trying.
rind of 1 lemon
3 drops oil of camphor
Gently warm the milk and soak the lemon rind in it for 10 minutes. Add the oil of camphor. Drink the milk just before going to bed.
Apple cider vinegar makes an excellent wash for dispelling body odour and keeping the acid mantle of the skin.
Dilute 12,5 ml (1 tbsp) apple cider vinegar in 250 ml (1 cup) water and use frequently as a wash. Don’t be put off by the smell of the vinegar; it evaporates in about 10 minutes.
Try to include chlorophyll-rich foods in your diet. The green of the vegetables is a natural deodoriser and green salads will not only keep your skin fresh but keep it clear of impurities.
HERBAL DOUCHES
Douching sensibly and in moderation is an excellent way to keep the vagina healthy and free from smell.
NB Pregnant women should never douche.
Cleansing Douche
1/2 litre (2 cups) boiling water
12,5 ml (1 tbsp) lavender leaves 12,5 ml (1 tbsp) apple cider vinegar 12,5 ml (1 tbsp) sage
Pour the boiling water over the herbs. Stand and steep. Allow to cool until warm. Strain. Add the vinegar and use as a douche.
Menstrual Disorder Douche
25 ml (2 tbsp) yarrow leaves and flowers 1/2 litre (2 cups) boiling water
Pour boiling water over the herbs. Stand and steep. Strain when lukewarm. This douche will help to ease menstrual pain and stem a heavy flow.
Aphrodisiac Douche
25 ml (2 tbsp) scented geranium leaves 25 ml (2 tbsp) violet flowers
1/2 litre (2 cups) boiling water
Pour boiling water over the herbs. Stand and steep. Strain when lukewarm. Use as a douche. These three beautifully fragrant herbs are believed to arouse passion — hence the name!
