Cuticle Softener
25 ml (2 tbsp) fresh pineapple juice
I egg yolk
5 ml (1 tsp) apple cider vinegar
Mash the pawpaw and mix into pineapple juice. Beat in the egg yolk. Add the cider vinegar and pour into a small bowl. Soak nails in the mixture for half an hour, massaging every now and then. Both pineapple and pawpaw contain an enzyme which softens protein tissue.
Cream for Damaged Nails
125 ml (1/2 cup) honey
1 egg yolk
125 ml (1/2 cup) avocado oil or castor oil
2 ml (1/2 tsp) sea salt
Beat ingredients together and keep in a screw-top jar in the refrigerator. Rub a little into the nails daily, leaving on for half an hour.
Nail Strengtheners
Warm up a little medicinal olive oil in a double boiler with a sprig or two of sage. Rub into the nails and cuticles.
Rub cider vinegar into the nails daily. Rub lemon peel into the nails daily. Rub glycerine into the nails daily.
Include calcium-rich foods in your diet and drink plenty of milk, yoghurt and buttermilk. Put herb teas, fresh fruit and fresh salads on your daily menu.
Make a lotion of 12,5 ml (1 tbsp) rosewater, 12,5 ml (1 tbsp) lemon juice, 12,5 ml (1 tbsp) glycerine, and 37,5 ml (3 tbsp) vodka. Pour into a bottle. Shake ingredients together and rub into nails and cuticles daily.
Fresh strawberries, both the cultivated type and the little bright wild strawberry, will clean stains and remove tartar from the teeth, as well as whiten them and invigorate the gums. Rub over teeth and gums every now and then.
Parsley chewed daily tightens loose teeth and keeps the gums healthy.
Massage a sliver of lemon peel into the gums to strengthen them and clear infections.
To ease toothache, chew a couple of cloves.
