Tips for Working MOMS Dealing With STRESS
- . Sit down and analyse whether the problem is really important. Prioritize your worries and deal with them individually.
- Remove the item(s) causing stress: do the job you have been putting off, for example. Put things away properly: not finding things is stressful.
- Talk over worries with your partner or a close friend.
- Get plenty of fresh air. Get out of the house on your own and walk, breathe deeply or work out.
- Don’t take too much on, either at work or at home. The kids don’t need entertainment twenty-four hours a day. They’ll happily play in the garden instead of going out somewhere.
- Make time each day to relax, even if it’s just a long soak in the bath.
- Have an all-over massage followed by very slow sex.
- Indulge yourself. Use lunch breaks for yourself – go out alone rather than lunching with colleagues, or swim, or do a yoga class.
- Work out what is valuable to you and what your needs are. Prune out the dead wood.
- Don’t give rook per cent of yourself to your career and, if you can, pay someone to clean the house.
- . Set your goals to fit your lifestyle. Establish a routine to do certain things at certain times: hoover the living room, for example, on Thursdays, and clean the kitchen on Fridays. Stick to that, and don’t worry about those jobs for the week in between, because you know they’ll get done in due course.
- Constantly give yourself positive messages about what you have achieved, no matter how small.
- Work hard at maintaining a close circle of friends with and without children, and build a female support network.
- Laughter is the best tonic in the world.
- Go somewhere and have a good shout. Don’t bottle it up inside.
- If walls are closing in, find a gentle distraction: shopping, cinema, eating out, a holiday.
17. Do a stress management course.
18. Listen to a meditation tape.
- Have a good session at the bottle bank!
- Admit that you’re tired; it is not a sign of weakness to ask for help.
- Remember that some stress is healthy.
